Multiplication and division of fractions
Multiplication and division of fractions
Points to note
- Multiplication of fractions involves multipling the two numerators together then then the two denominators together.
- However, when multiplying fractions inorder to simplify do so by canceling factors common to both numerators denominators.
- Whole numbers are multiplied with numerator only.
- All mixed numbers are converted to improper fractions when multiplying or dividing.
- In division of fractions, change the division signs to multiplication then change the second fraction to be its reciprocal (invert it).
