What is volume?

L= length

W= width/ breadth(d)

H= height

Volume refers to the  measure of  space taken up by a solid object 

How many small boxes can occupy the bigger box

• To determine volume of an object,we count the number of cubic units contained within a unit or region as below

Example.

 4 x 3 × 2 = 24 units

How do we measure volume?

We use cubic centimeters  (cm3) or cubic meters (m3) r

Volume is  a three dimensional object. Therefore, the is formula;

Volume=Length× Width x Height

How do we workout the volume of an object?

Example 1

Volume=length× width  × height

 4× 3× 2 = 24cm3

Workout the volume of diagram below

Count the units

L= 3

W =3

H= 3

V = l x w x h 

3 × 3 × 3 = 27units

Example 2

What is the volume of the diagram below

V= l × w× h

     12 × 4× 3

     = 144m3
